Types of RCFE [ Residential Care Facility for Elderly ]
Types of Living Arrangements
Board & Care
Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE's) also known as "Board and Care" homes, are residential communities that offer 24-hour care and supervision for seniors who need help with activities of daily living (ADLs) but do not require the level of medical care provided by skilled nursing facilities. These facilities provide a supportive environment where residents can receive personalized assistance with daily tasks while maintaining as much independence as possible.
Assisted Living Facility
Assisted living communities are residential settings specifically designed for seniors who need help with activities of daily living (ADLs) but do not require intensive care. These communities allow residents to enjoy a range of amenities while receiving the necessary support. Typically, the number of residents in these communities ranges from 50 to 300 or more, resulting in a higher staff-to-resident ratio compared to smaller boarding care facilities.
Memory Care for Dementia / Alzheimer's
Memory care is a specialized service tailored for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. These communities are specifically designed to offer a secure and supportive environment, with trained staff who are equipped to address the unique needs of residents with memory impairments.

To help keep residents safe, memory care-specific communities often have added security features such as:
-
Locked entrances and exits
-
Keypad entries
-
Obscured exits
-
Doorbells that signal entering and exiting
Respite Care
Respite care provides an essential service for those seeking temporary relief from caregiving duties.

These services are designed to offer a safe and supportive environment for individuals who need assistance with daily activities but do not require skilled nursing care.
-
Respite Care is a transient stay in an Assisted Living Facility due to caregiving burnt out or right after SNF rehabilitation and the family is not quite ready yet to bring their loved ones at home.
-
This is usually a fully furnished room that is paid on the daily rate with full board meal.
Independent Living
Independent living communities provide an excellent option for seniors seeking a self-sufficient lifestyle within a supportive and secure environment. Also known as retirement communities or senior living communities, these residences are ideal for individuals who do not need 24-hour care or skilled nursing but may appreciate some assistance with daily activities.
In-Home Care
In-home care is a service designed for individuals who require assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) but prefer to remain in the comfort of their own home rather than relocate to a care facility. This care can be delivered by family members, friends, or professional caregivers who are trained and licensed to provide the necessary support.
